I came to this practice ten years ago searching, whether I knew it or not, for a way to connect. At the time I had no idea what I wanted to connect to, I just knew that something had to change, that I was ready for more. What I discovered was an incredibly powerful tool for self-study. Taking time each day to return, again and again, to present moment awareness has been a life raft in times of trouble. I've come to rely very deeply on the truth of an unvarnished moment. I feel like for the most part life moves so fast that being in one place in time, doing one thing at a time is an oasis. It reminds me that I'm really quite small & insignificant in the grand scheme of things. And yet, capable of holding such majesty, such magic! Even if only for the space of one breath. I love the idea of being a container for life to fill up... It's an honour to teach. To be in a position to share something so valuable is such a gift. Big love and thanks to all the teachers, friends and family who've shaped me. Here's to softer edges and stronger cores.
 

Stef Rizvi

I have always loved making it to my mat, but my true love for yoga began while rehabbing a persistent running injury. I was forced to slow down and heal and commit to a consistent practice. I loved it so much that in 2008 I travelled to Costa Rica to take my first yoga training. It was life changing. I found love. Now I get to share that love in this beautiful community that Junction 9 has brought together. Breathe it all in, love it all out.

Lauren Hutchings

My journey on this path began when I attended an intro yoga class at a studio here in Calgary. I felt at ease as my breath held space for me to connect with my body in present time. It was an amazing feeling and sparked the right amount of curiosity which ignited my passionate career path today. In 2012, I went on to complete a 200 hour teacher training at Yoga Passage, followed by a Yoga Nidra certification with Tanis Fishman. I later completed my level 3 of Critical Alignment Yoga and Therapy training with Gert Van Leeuwan and spent 2 months living in a Satyananda Ashram in New Zealand. My passion lies in yoga therapy, trauma recovery and psychosomatic healing. Today, I focus my teaching on Thrive yoga for Cancer survivors, yoga for a mental health unit at the FMC and Therapeutic Yoga classes that integrates practices of Critical Alignment Therapy. The practice of yoga and mindfulness, be it in movement or in stillness, has reshaped my life and will continue to be a life long self-study. I believe that we can connect to our purest potential and the core of who we are through the practice of disconnected awareness; where we discover the ability to quietly tune back into the wisdom of our hearts time and time again. This practice has changed my life and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to pay this beautiful gift forward.

Melanie Emlyn

Melanie is a Yoga Teacher, Certified In Holistic Nutritionist & Reiki Healer. Growing up as an athlete, she's always had a passion for health & wellness. After becoming a Holistic Nutritionist in 2013 she began to understand that being healthy wasn't just about what you put in your body, it was just as important to balance the emotional, spiritual and energetic aspects of yourself. Up until then, she had pursued yoga as injury-prevention and fitness but quickly began to see positive shifts and it brought her to a place of deeper connection with herself and the world around her.

Her yoga classes focus on breath work, mind-body connection, and healing from the inside out– all complimented by contemporary music to form an inviting atmosphere. She inspires students and clients to connect to their authentic selves and embrace all of their unique abilities.

The class is a beautiful balance starting with a steady practice matching movement and breath, heart with lungs. Your teacher will create a fluid unique sequence with a primary focus on generating internal heat through breath, sun salutations, balance, and strength. Once you are warm, muscles primed, you will transition into a sweet surrender of restorative yoga postures and the use of props to allow your mind and body to unwind. All levels welcome.
