Vinyasa Flow Yoga

This class is taught by:

Stef Rizvi

I have always loved making it to my mat, but my true love for yoga began while rehabbing a persistent running injury. I was forced to slow down and heal and commit to a consistent practice. I loved it so much that in 2008 I travelled to Costa Rica to take my first yoga training. It was life changing. I found love. Now I get to share that love in this beautiful community that Junction 9 has brought together. Breathe it all in, love it all out.

Lauren Hutchings

My journey on this path began when I attended an intro yoga class at a studio here in Calgary. I felt at ease as my breath held space for me to connect with my body in present time. It was an amazing feeling and sparked the right amount of curiosity which ignited my passionate career path today. In 2012, I went on to complete a 200 hour teacher training at Yoga Passage, followed by a Yoga Nidra certification with Tanis Fishman. I later completed my level 3 of Critical Alignment Yoga and Therapy training with Gert Van Leeuwan and spent 2 months living in a Satyananda Ashram in New Zealand. My passion lies in yoga therapy, trauma recovery and psychosomatic healing. Today, I focus my teaching on Thrive yoga for Cancer survivors, yoga for a mental health unit at the FMC and Therapeutic Yoga classes that integrates practices of Critical Alignment Therapy. The practice of yoga and mindfulness, be it in movement or in stillness, has reshaped my life and will continue to be a life long self-study. I believe that we can connect to our purest potential and the core of who we are through the practice of disconnected awareness; where we discover the ability to quietly tune back into the wisdom of our hearts time and time again. This practice has changed my life and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to pay this beautiful gift forward.

Melanie Emlyn

Melanie is a Yoga Teacher, Certified In Holistic Nutritionist & Reiki Healer. Growing up as an athlete, she's always had a passion for health & wellness. After becoming a Holistic Nutritionist in 2013 she began to understand that being healthy wasn't just about what you put in your body, it was just as important to balance the emotional, spiritual and energetic aspects of yourself. Up until then, she had pursued yoga as injury-prevention and fitness but quickly began to see positive shifts and it brought her to a place of deeper connection with herself and the world around her.

Her yoga classes focus on breath work, mind-body connection, and healing from the inside out– all complimented by contemporary music to form an inviting atmosphere. She inspires students and clients to connect to their authentic selves and embrace all of their unique abilities.

Kate W Mak

Hi, I'm Kate and I am a self proclaimed fun enthusiast that is always seeking to learn, teach, travel and eat. Teaching yoga and getting onto the mat myself is one of the most beautiful and satisfying journeys I have been on and continue to walk along. It is my humble hope that I can encourage and inspire while sharing the pieces of me with every class I teach. It is important for me to approach and teach from a place of playfulness while going deeper into the flow and poetry of the practice. In my classes, I strive to blend my background in science with the steeped wisdom that comes from yoga teachings while keeping it light hearted and fun. It is my intention to awaken within each of us, our ability to act as positive instruments in this world for change. This is powered by love, joy and laughter! It will be my honour to share this experience with you as a teacher, fellow student and friend! I can't wait to meet you and to see you on the mat!

Yoga for me is about connecting with people, learning how to get to a level with someone where habits, excuses, and patterning can all be brought into the light to help personal growth.  I love going deeper, and getting uncover and peel back the layers of self that had been built up over the years. Without light there is no dark, without masculine no feminine, without strength no softness can be found.  I am so grateful for the many teachers I have come across and been able to learn from.  I am so grateful to have a studio to call home, a place to share community with and a space that you all feel welcome in.  Look forward to seeing you soon. Love

I am a MOVER; I have a love and passion for movement, creative expression and adventure. I love hard work, fun, play and new challenges.
.
I know that I am not my body but its where I live and its an incredible teacher; to be able to move daily in a healthy thriving body is a gift.
.
Being an athlete, a competitor and a “driver” has meant that I’ve typically operated at full speed, taking many of my interests to the extremes; living at a rapid tempo in all areas of my life - slowing down has been my life challenge.
.
Yoga has taught me presence and to celebrate daily rather than getting fixated on end results. The BIG thing for me, is that I move to get still, to quiet the mind and feel a spark that provides a creative presence; its working from the outside in; working the body to connect mind, body and soul.

What continues to be most impactful for me as a student and is the foundation for my yoga teachings is that when we participate with the intent of tuning into our bodies intelligence we learn how to connect to ourselves in a deeper way.

We begin to understand it has less to do with what the body can do and more about the happiness that unfolds in learning about ourselves - so let’s dive in, get messy, move, sweat, stretch, breathe and allow some fun hard work and play to teach us something more powerful and purposeful.✌🏻

Yoga has been an incredibly reliable friend to me over the past 10 years. It's given me different things, depending on where I am in my life, but it always seems to be exactly what I need at that moment. There's no judgement or expectation, it's just there ready to accept whatever I bring. I love every little part of it.
I took my first teacher training in 2009 and was fortunate enough to start teaching right away. Since then, I've been able to study different avenues of yoga and healing and love being able to share those things in my classes.

Caitlin Montgomery

I have been teaching yoga in Calgary since 2009. The saying, “when the student is ready, the teacher appears” has held true for me during my yoga journey. I have been blessed to learn from a variety of wonderful teachers over the years as my practice and understandings evolve. For me, the practice of yoga is a powerful tool for us to really know ourselves on a deep level, to remember who we are and to connect to our life’s purpose. I am so grateful to be teaching at Junction 9! I love getting to know all of the wonderful yogis!
A class of exploration for syncing movement and breath. We will uncover the magic of non-sequenced flow, and how the wide array of postures linked with pranayama will help support and build a strong mind, body and heart. Each class will be a different experience based on your teacher’s creative choice and background to bring you to new depths and your edge on that particular day. Vinyasa yoga is an opportunity to challenge yourself while accessing a non-traditional flow and the way in which you show up on your mat. How we do one thing is how we do everything. We can’t wait to meet you on your mat, and see where our movement takes us. Everyone is welcome to this class. It will meet you wherever you are in your own personal practice.

“movement steeped in breath + strength” Jennifer Mehalko

“A class that is always slightly different and inspired by what I am working through in my own life and personal practice. Each class is like a fingerprint, unique and different… just like us...” Kate W. Mak

“Strong and sweaty” Adriana Britton

“I adore this style of yoga as it helps us to remember our inner strength through the manifestation of the physical body. I’m inspired to teach this because it brings people to the edge of their perceived limitations and encourages them to get curious.” Stacey Irvine
